[Recaps] Princess Weiyoung 錦綉未央 – Ep 2

Again, a lot is packed into this episode but wow it’s an adrenaline rush!

The episode begins with a servant delivering a message to Da Furen saying that “The Northern Liang King has been eliminated.” Of course, it’s great news to her since she’s going to benefit from this.

Then, we see the real Li Weiyang rescuing Xin’er from the woods, and thinking that Xin’er was a maiden who also suffer a bitter life like her.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 3.22.16 pm.png

Then we see them becoming good friends as they take care of each other, and help shoulder the burden of house chores.

They then have a deep conversation about each other and we learn that Wei Yang was from a distinguished family but her mother was a maid who washes feet. She continues saying that her father couldn’t keep her around when confronted with his high status. Plus, she was born in the month of February (bad luck). Her wish is to see her mother again since she had never seen her mother before, since she was kicked out of the house when she was young.

Quite sad, isn’t it?

We then have an ugly scene of Da Furen and her daughter, Changle. They’re already plotting on how to get rid of Weiyang who threatens them for some reason.

Chang Le: “Granny’s birthday is near, I heard that she sent people to take the feet washing girl back home. But mother, she is the nemesis of our house. How can we allow her to enter our family just like that?”
Da Furen: ““Since she is the nemesis, of course I will not allow her to wreck havoc in our house.” Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 3.28.06 pm.png

Then we see this man staring evilly at Weiyang and says that he is here to take Weiyang home. Weiyang’s face became happy but then we all became shocked when he immediately slashed his knife at her. He tells her how it was Da Furen’s plan and Weiyang exclaims that she didn’t even do anything to her, why would Da Furen want to kill her?

Weiyang smartly throws some dirt at his eyes to distract him whilst she makes her escape, shouting “Help, Help”.

Meanwhile, Xin’er comes by saying “It’s time to eat Weiyang” and realised that something happened to Weiyang when she noticed the empty basket on the ground. Hearing Weiyang’s cries for help, she immediately sets off to find Weiyang.

Just as he was about to kill Weiyang, Xin’er quickly stabs the guy in the neck and the girls quickly escaped.

While escaping, Weiyang told Xin’er about her family and how this was all Da Furen’s ploy to get her killed. After knowing that they have a common enemy, a sword swiftly comes at them. Weiyang quickly blocks it for Xin’er and Xin’er immediately jumps on the assassin and kills him with the stake on the ground.

Sadly, Weiyang passed away after telling Xin’er to live well. Xin’er makes a grave for Weiyang before going back to the cottage. On the way, she sees a procession and realises that Weiyang’s grandma is bringing Weiyang back home. As Xin’er recalls her past memories when everyone sacrificed themselves for her, she decided to keep on living for Weiyang, as Weiyang.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 10.39.41 pm.png

Afterwards, we see the madam in charge of Weiyang walking about anxiously because the grandma has come to take Weiyang back but Weiyang was not here. Then Xin’er comes in through the window and tells the madam in charge about Weiyang’s death and that she will go as Weiyang instead. The madam agrees due to no other alternatives and Weiyang introduces herself to her grandma’s maids: “I am Li Weiyang”.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 10.43.47 pm.png

Back at the Li household, we see Da Furen consulting a taoist priest who says that Li Wei Yang and Li Chang Le’s life lines will no longer intersect which made her quite happy. However, her servant suddenly came in and said that Weiyang is returning home, which made her mad, of course.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 10.46.34 pm.png

Then the screen cuts to Weiyang who is going to stay at a hotel for a night before going back home. Tuo Ba Jun is also seen to be staying at the same hotel and goes inside to rest.

Meanwhile, Xin’er was looking at a pendant in her room which we realise belongs to the real Weiyang. Xin’er begins to plot her revenge and the fact that she gets to live in the Li Household, the people who killed her loved ones.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 10.46.57 pm.png

Back at the Li’s Household, a servant reports to Da Furen that everything has been taken care of. Looks like the killing spree has not stopped.

We see Weiyang’s room covered in flames due to assassins who locked and sprayed the doors with oil before lighting them on fire. Her servants managed to escape but Weiyang was still stuck in the firey room. Luckily, Tuo Ba Jun quickly went and rescued Weiyang despite his servant’s protests.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 10.52.36 pm.png

Weiyang recognised him from previously but immediately says that she recognised the wrong person. Her servants immediately crowded her but when she turned to thank him, he already disappeared.

Back at the Li’s Household, Da Furen got pissed when she realised her plan failed and Weiyang still lives. However, that doesn’t stop her to keep plotting.

Back to Xin’er, her two servants bowed to her to show their gratefulness for having their lives saved. They decided to be good sisters and be loyal to each other, at all times. Then the servants began to suspect that the fire was a plot, which Weiyang didn’t say anything as she knows who was behind it all.

When Xin’er arrives at the manor, this arrogrant servant (Da Furen’s) said that they had to enter by the side door instead of the main door. When Xin’er’s servant protests, she immediately got slapped. However, Xin’er slaps Da Furen – GO GIRL! – and says “Is this how Da Furen teaches her servants?”

Then Xin’er confidently says: “Who cares if we enter through the side door? I just want to go in with dignity.”

Afterwards, we have a scene between the Li’s daughters where Changxi kept on overcomplimenting Changle (Da Furen’s daughter).

Back to Xin’er, she gets caught in a dilemma as she’s not familiar with their customs and didn’t know how to greet her elders. Anyhow, she greeted them with three kowtows to her grandmother despite being mocked by the concubines.

Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 11.05.24 pm.pngHowever, when the grandmother complimented Xin’er, the concubines immediately followed suit. Then, Xin’er mistakenly mistakes Da Furen as her birth mother who quickly clears up the situation.

Meanwhile, Changxi came bustling in and mocks Weiyang in front of Changle, who defends her instead – no wonder, she’s publically known as the “most kind-hearted person ever”.

Then, we see Weiyang’s mother peaking through the beams trying to have a closer look at Weiyang. But, this moment was cut short when some servants quickly forced her to leave saying how she left her home without permission.Screen Shot 2016-11-15 at 11.09.17 pm.png

Thoughts:

Like I said in my previous recap, there are pros and cons to the drama being fast-paced. Pros: we get to understand the context and get introduced to all the characters quickly.

Cons: we don’t see a closer development of the characters i.e. the relationship between Weiyang and Xin’er, which is a pity as we know of their close relationship but we don’t see the chemistry.
